Prosciutto Crostini with Fig Jam

Simple Prosciutto Crostini with cheese and fig jam

If you need an easy and elegant appetizer, try prosciutto crostini. I love the balance of crisp toasted bread, silky prosciutto, and a touch of creamy cheese or fruit spread. You can make them for gatherings or for a quick yet flavorful bite that feels a little special at any time of day.

How to Pair

This is my simple recipe for Prosciutto crostini with fig jam:

  • servings: 6 (about 12 crostini)
  • prep time: 10 minutes
  • cook time: 10 minutes
  • total time: 20 minutes
  • calories: ~120 per crostini
  • cuisine: Italian-inspired
  • course: Appetizer / Snack

Ingredients

  • 1 small baguette, sliced into 12 thin pieces
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 120 g (4 oz) prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup fig jam
  • 120 g (4 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1–2 tbsp milk (to soften cream cheese if needed)
  • Fresh thyme or basil (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Arrange baguette slices on a baking tray. Brush both sides lightly with olive oil.
  3. Bake for 8–10 minutes until golden and crisp. Let cool slightly.
  4. In a small bowl, mix cream cheese with milk until smooth and spreadable.
  5. Spread a layer of cream cheese on each crostini.
  6. Add about 1–2 teaspoons of fig jam on top.
  7. Gently fold a slice of prosciutto and place it over the jam.
  8. Garnish with fresh herbs if using. Serve immediately for the best texture.

Notes

  • Use a fresh baguette for the best crispy texture—day-old bread works even better for toasting.
  • If prosciutto is expensive, you can substitute with thinly sliced ham, though the flavor will be milder.
  • Don’t skip toasting the bread—this ensures the crostini stays crisp under the toppings.
  • Adjust fig jam quantity to taste if you prefer less sweetness.
  • Assemble just before serving to avoid soggy bread.
