Tomato Bisque Soup is a creamy, comforting soup made with tomatoes, broth, and cream. It has a rich tomato flavor with just the right balance of sweetness and tanginess. You can think of it as a creamier take on tomato basil soup.

If you’re planning a cozy lunch or a simple dinner, this soup is a great option. The smooth texture and rich flavor make it satisfying without being too heavy, and you can make it with everyday ingredients.
You can pair it with different sides, like grilled cheese, crusty bread or a sandwich.

Tomato Bisque Soup Recipe
Key Ingredients
Whole peeled tomatoes: I use canned whole tomatoes because they’re ripe and full of flavor all year, and they blend into a smooth, velvety soup. The juice in the can adds a lot of tomato flavor too. Canned crushed tomatoes also work if that’s what you have.

Tomato paste adds a concentrated, rich tomato flavor and a deeper color to the soup.
Heavy cream makes the bisque smooth and creamy, and it softens the acidity of the tomatoes. You can leave it out, but the soup won’t be quite as rich.
Tips & Tricks
Let the tomato paste darken: I cook the paste with the garlic for a couple of minutes, until it turns slightly darker. That deepens the flavor and gives the soup a richer tomato taste.

Blend until completely smooth: Keep blending until no tomato bits are left.
Taste before serving: Canned tomatoes can vary in acidity, so I always taste the soup before serving. If it tastes a little too sharp, stir in a small pinch of sugar and taste again.

Tomato bisque tastes creamy, tangy, and gently sweet. Crisp, savory, or fresh sides will balance its rich texture and bright tomato flavor.

- A grilled cheese sandwich adds a buttery crunch and turns the soup into a comforting lunch.
- Toasted baguette slices, garlic bread, or herbed croutons soak up the velvety bisque.
- A simple green salad with lemon vinaigrette provides a fresh, acidic contrast.
- Roasted chicken or a turkey sandwich makes the meal more filling without overpowering the soup.
