This easy Jalapeño Dip is one of my favorite recipes when I need a quick, crowd-pleasing appetizer. It comes together with simple ingredients and combines creamy, tangy flavors with the fresh kick of jalapeños.

The typical base is cream cheese, sour cream or mayo, and shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack, combined with diced jalapeños. It is rich, tangy, slightly spicy, and easy to scoop up.

Jalapeno Dip Recipe
Key Ingredients
Cream cheese is the rich, cool base that carries the dip and tempers the heat of the peppers. Sour cream or mayo on their own would be too thin to hold together as a proper scoopable dip.
Fresh jalapeños bring a bright, green, sharp heat that tastes alive. I often dice them fine so the heat spreads evenly through the bowl instead of ambushing one unlucky chip.

Pickled jalapeños add a tangy, vinegary heat and an acidity that cuts through all the creamy richness. Using both fresh and pickled gives the dip layers of heat rather than one flat note.
Sharp cheddar adds a savory, tangy depth that rounds out the peppers. Mild cheddar melts in fine but you barely notice it’s there.
Tips to Make It Perfect
Seed the jalapeños to control the heat: Most of the burn lives in the seeds and the white membranes inside. If you want a mild, crowd-friendly dip, scrape them out.

Soften the cream cheese fully before mixing: Cold cream cheese leaves lumps that never smooth out no matter how hard you stir. I set it on the counter 30 minutes ahead so everything blends creamy.
Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving: The rest lets the two kinds of jalapeño and the garlic spread through the base.
